I don't even know what to title this post.

Possibilities:

We Are Leaving Today For Dubai.

PDX - SFO - DXB = 17.5 Hours Of Flying.

I've Been Waiting So Long For This Day And Yet I Can't Believe It's Finally Here.

OH MY GOSH I Am So Tired Of Living Out Of A Suitcase (It's Been Exactly Four Months Now).

Perhaps The Less I Think About It The Less Nervous I'll Be.

Goodbye, Dear Sweet America; or, How I Almost Bought A Costco-sized Box Of York Peppermint Patties Just At The Thought Of Not Seeing Them Again For A Looooong Time.

As you can see, I have a few options.

Speaking of titles, My Adventures in Arabia is winning on the poll so far. It was my own personal frontrunner as well so there's a good chance that's what it will end up being. We'll see.

To tide you over until I emerge on the other side of the Atlantic, please enjoy these pictures my good friend Mikael took of our family. I love having outrageously talented friends.

AAAAAHHHHH I can't believe this day is already here! You are already missed. May your flights be easy, on time, and only half-full.

I like "My Adventures in Arabia." It was my top pick!

p.s. what is the book situation in Dubai?! Do you have access to lots of English books through the university? Are you going to be stuck reading literary classics online for several years?

You are way too nice to call me talented! I will miss you. We take more pics when you come back next year :)

Okay, so even though I have never actually met you in person or even had a chance run-in (I was kind of hoping I would run-in to you in Portland this time around) - I feel a little sad that you are leaving the country. But I do look forward to your take of the Arab world - it's going to be really really interesting to read your posts!

Oh and I'm sad I didn't connect with you while we were both in Portland, but let's be honest--we are always so busy just keeping both families happy that I should have known it wouldn't happen. I'm just glad we got to see you while you were down here last year.

Good luck!! Just repeat to yourself while trying not to scream at one more request to: go to the bathroom, read a book, fix a seat belt, get them off the plane, etc, 'all travel eventually ends. All travel eventually ends. All travel eventually ends.' Maybe then the Glinda will come and get you off the flight.

Their plane landed in Dubai at about 7:20 this morning (Wednesday) Oregon time. Let the adventures begin! But may they get a good night's rest first.

I loved those family pictures - you guys all look so beautiful! I loved your color palate of shades of blue (I have this thing with color - its always been really important to me!). Anyway, liked the blue!
