May 15th, outsourced

A woman got lost in the wilderness while running a trail race and sustained herself by consuming her own breastmilk. All kinds of crazy and awesome. It also led me to think about how long such a cycle could be perpetuated - how long could you live on your own breastmilk? Sorry if this is gross to anyone. But if it is, get over it. IT'S JUST BREASTMILK.

The Arab battle for US skies. My brother and his wife are here visiting thanks to a killer Emirates sale - two tickets, JFK to DXB direct, $600 each. That is a steal.

Here's your time-waster for today: what is your today name? Miriam's today name is Olive, but, so weirdly, her 1890s name is Magdalena. What are the odds?? [HT Jen]

John Oliver on paid family leave. Brilliant as usual.

Perhaps you have seen this video of people flying with jetpacks around Dubai. We live in the future, man. [HT Matt]

Oman from the sky! One of my favorite places in the whole world! [HT Jeremy]

Oh this is a very sad "apartment" listing, complete with acceptable hours for bathroom usage and everything.

Congrats, you have an all-male panel! [HT Andrew]

So I'm a little ashamed to admit it but I actually cried during the paid family leave video when Andrew posted it earlier this week. It was when she kicked the milk over. Anyone who has ever had to pump milk know how tragic that moment in real life is. My mom used to pump in a bathroom stall. Can we talk about how messed up our country is that we force moms to make these types of choices. Yikes. So speaking of drinking breast milk, when Cheetah was a few months old...April, so like six months four months adjusted, we took her on this camping trip and she just wasn't nursing as much as she normally did and my boobs hurt so bad. We were with J's whole family though so I was sort of stuck but in the morning when we were driving from our camp site to dinosaur footprints I had just had it and wiped out a gigantic cup...probably held 16 ounces and squeezed probably 10-12 ounces into the thing. It was just sitting there in the cup holder, J looked at it once, looked at it twice and then picked it up and drank the entire thing. So we know he would have survived :) I feel like you are already starting to feel a little nostalgic for the Middle East so I found this for you. It actually was already up on our computer. J is obsessed with the Northern Lights and thinks I'm a loon because I say, "Yeah, those are ok." :)

An especially good round-up this week! The fly-over of Oman was especially fun for my kids. (Further fun: telling them, "My friend goes CAMPING there!!!")

Good links - thank you! I love your Friday posts. My very favorite link is the flyover Oman. Beautiful! My husband loved the Fly Dubai video. Wow - how have we managed to avoid paid parenting leave all these years? How can people ignore the realities of half of the population?
